In a bid to bring spiritual enlightenment to pub going, a 'prayer box has been installed on the bar at Ye Olde Mail Coach in Conwy.

Customers simply write a prayer on a piece of paper and put it in the box. The prayers are collected every week and a selection are read out at multi-faith prayer group meeting.

Host Kevin McArdle said the idea came from America, where prayer boxes can be found in a number of public places.

About 20 prayers have been deposited into the box every week since it was introduced two months ago.

McArdle said the prayer box was perfect for people who don't go to church.

'At first I was a bit concerned about people's reactions, but I decided to give it a go, he said.

'We got a few jokers when we started. After that, with all of the trouble that's been going on in the world, people have shown they need help in different ways.

The licensee explained: 'People have lost their way and don't go to church anymore. They come to the pub not just for a drink, but because they are lonely and looking for help.
