Pubs that are willing to house camper vans will be able to take advantage of a lucrative and growing market by being included in a forthcoming guidebook.

Camper van enthusiast Mike Gibbens is compiling a guide to pubs and restaurants in Britain that allow the vehicles to park overnight, in exchange for the owners visiting the pub.

Pubs that are included must have enough space to park the vehicles, which are typically around 20ft long.

Camper vans are usually self-sufficient so the pub would not have to provide other services such as water or toilet facilities.

"[Camper van owners] will come [to the pub] because they know they will be able to go for a meal and a pint and not have to drive off," said Gibbens.

Once enough pubs have been found, Gibbens aims to publish the guide and advertise it in relevant magazines.

He added: "There's a huge following. Sales were up by 30% last year and they are not cheap, so people who buy them often have money to spend."
