Beers sourced from Spain, France, Brazil and Canada have all been added to the portfolio of Specialist Brand Development (SBD), purveyor of niche and genuinely imported premium brews.

The specialist beer agency that recently helped seed the new-look Amstel lager in the UK on behalf of Heineken is now set to champion several new brands in the UK.

It has acquired the distribution rights for Cruzcampo, the number one beer in Spain, Fischer, a French beer from Alsace, Sambadoro (4.9 per cent ABV) from Saõ Paulo, Brazil, and two beers from the Sleemans craft brewery in Canada, Sleemans Silver Creek (pictured) (4.1 per cent ABV) and an amber beer called Honeybrown.

Nick Holmes, managing director of SBD, said: "Beers are being left behind by wine and cocktails. And the more clued-up licensees and retailers are coming to terms with the concept of stocking speciality, what we call 'choice', beers.

"The industry needs it as the choice in the chiller is not meeting the needs of a consumer who is way ahead of the big brewers."

All the beers are genuinely imported and brewed in their country of origin.

Cruzcampo, which commands 30 per cent of its domestic Spanish market, will be available on draught and in bottles while Fischer is available in a Grolsch-style swing-top bottle.

The latest additions are joining a portfolio that already consists of the Paulaner range from Germany, Affligem from Belgium, Wieckse Witte, a white beer from Holland, and the female-friendly range of Fruli fruit beers.
