The Designation of Origin was the first to be constituted in Spain and was a pioneer in publishing the Regulations for a Designation of Origin in 1933.

It is a quality control and certification body, as well as a guarantee of the origin of the products it protects, and to this end it has a wide range of regulations in each of the production phases.

But the Consejo Regulador is much more than a control and certification body, and its role has been and continues to be key to the defense of the common heritage, achieving international recognition of the D.O. of Sherry Wines and Vinegar, protecting them and defending their interests both inside and outside of Spain.

This recognition, not only internationally, but also within our country, is also due to the role of the Regulatory Council in promoting, disseminating and training the Jerez brand. It is worth mentioning the creation of the Aula de Formación, which offers different courses and seminars aimed at both professionals and Sherry wine lovers, which provide in-depth knowledge of their peculiarities, winemaking processes and the culture surrounding these wines, which in turn leads to greater enjoyment of them.

The Control Board has also been a pioneer in the implementation of promotional campaigns in different markets, as well as in the promotion of wine tourism.

In short, and thanks to its tireless work, this organisation has taken Sherry Wines and Vinegars, as well as its culture, all over the world.

If you Google sherry, pretty much every article starts with a tired line of an elderly English lady or vicar with a tipple of sherry. It’s a cliché that it is hard to retire.
