Paul Newman departs New Moon Pub Co

One of the founders of prominent northern gastropub group New Moon Co has parted ways with the company.

Paul Newman, who founded New Moon Co in 2011 with David Mooney, tweeted yesterday (20 September) that he was moving on to “new pastures”.

But he stressed his departure was in no way a reflection of his relationship with Mooney, tweeting: “Just to be clear – David Mooney is a legend and we are mates and we will work together again in the future.”

The Morning Advertiser has attempted to reach Newman and Mooney for comment.

Sites

New Moon currently operates eight sites across the north-west, including the Old Blind School, Liverpool, the Old Sessions House, Knutsford, Beef & Pudding, Manchester and the Montgomery, Eastham.

Last November the group began an update of its estate, significantly investing in improving the food offer across its portfolio.

Investment

This involved a £60k investment into the Lord Binning, Kelsall and a revamp of the menu at Beef & Pudding to include dishes that played on ‘Northern twists and humour’.

Beef & Pudding, which was New Moon’s first site to open in Manchester, went on to be shortlisted earlier this year for the Manchester Food Porn awards for its ‘Bury Bomb’ dish – black pudding, Lancashire cheese and parsley wrapped in crispy potato with HP Sauce.
