Trade bodies are ramping up campaigns pushing for a fourth successive cut in beer duty in the March budget.

The British Beer and Pub Association (BBPA) is distributing over 100,000 posters, postcards and beer mats, which urge members of the public to back the campaign, to pubs around the UK.

The posters, alongside postcards from the Campaign for Real Ale, highlight the disparity in beer duty between Britain and other European countries and call on pubgoers to write to their local MPs.

Figures from the BBPA believe the three previous cuts to duty have secured 19,000 jobs across the brewing and pub sector and that beer is 20p cheaper than it would have been had the Government pushed ahead with tax raises.

So far, 29 MP’s have signed an early day motion asking for a further reduction in beer duty from the government.

Licensees can email contact@beerandpub.com to request the posters, postcards and beer mats and the poster can be viewed here.

PMA readers have been urged to join the lobbying effort by BBPA chief executive Brigid Simmonds, who said licensee support has had a big impact on previous campaigns.
