VIDEO: Get your summer wine list right with these top tips

Prosecco, English whites and light reds are three types of wine that operators should consider when putting together the perfect summer wine list, according to advice from a leading expert.

Sales of Prosecco have continued to rise year-on-year, said Dougal Kenny, Crown Cellars' wine and spirits manager for the south-east and London.

"Prosecco is very popular at the moment and there's been a massive increase in sales last year,” Kenny told the Publican’s Morning Advertiser in this exclusive video at Crown Cellars' on-trade wine tasting at the OXO tower in London yesterday (11 April).

Prominent display

"You'd certainly want to make sure you've got a prominent display of Prosecco behind the bar and that it is accessible by the glass to your customers so they don't have to commit to a whole bottle if they don't want to."

English white wines are experiencing something of a renaissance at the moment and will be an ideal point of interest for customers over the summer period, he added.

Kenny also highlighted how operators could ensure red wine drinkers didn't miss out over the summer by offering light and fruity reds, such as a young Pinot Noir, which could be chilled to cellar temperatures.
