Peroni Nastro Azzurro Gluten Free will be available in 330ml bottles from 1 April. The bottle will feature a red cap to distinguish the beer from its gluten-containing counterparts.
A spokesman for the Asahi UK-owned brand said: “Research showed that consumers desired greater choice from brands they recognised and trust within the gluten-free sector and they believed Peroni Nastro Azzurro was worth paying more for in comparison to other gluten-free beer options.”
Original recipe unaltered
It added: “Using their extensive skills and experience, so as not to alter the original recipe, Peroni’s Italian brew masters have perfected the process of removing the gluten from the finished product which means that Peroni Nastro Azzurro Gluten Free has the same delicate balance of bitterness and citrus aromatic notes as Peroni Nastro Azzurro as well as the trademark refreshing, clean finish.”
Drinks list success
Peroni previously belonged to SABMiller and was sold to Asahi after Anheuser-Busch InBev's 'megabrew' takeover of SABMiller late last year.
It was recently placed 11th in The Morning Advertiser’s Top 100 Drinks list, which ranked drinks brands on sales and customer perception.
