BrewDog decided to put out the 'redacted collaboration' with Ballast Point under its own brand after the US brewer was sold to Mexican distributor Constellation Brands for £1bn.
This move also saw the Scottish brewer-operator stop serving Ballast Point beers in its bars.
BrewDog said: "[Ballast Point] sold out to an [ironically] Mexican distributor and left the ranks of craft beer for ever. So we had a decision to make. What about the beer?
"It was quite simple. The hard work and imagination of our brew team deserved to be heard, irrespective of the misguided decisions of others."
Peaty smoke
Ship Wreck has an ABV of 13% is aged in Scotch whisky casks.
BrewDog said: "The depth and complexity of the barrel-ageing results in a kick of peaty smoke to tie together with the smoked male and agave syrup.
"The woodsy oakiness of the Speyside cask act with the citrus edge of the US hops to lead the beer away from the dark, smoky deeps and into a more complex direction altogether."
Ditching
BrewDog has a history of ditching and refusing to stock a variety of craft beers in its bars after sales to large distributors.
Last December, company founder James Watt announced it would no longer stock beers by Camden Town Brewery after the well-liked brewer was brought by AB InBev.
It also previously dropped Lagunitas when it was bought by Heineken and Golden Road, also bought by AB InBev.
