GBPA 2024: Best Pub for Entertainment – the Trafalgar Tavern, Greenwich, south-east London
Overlooking the Thames in London’s Royal Greenwich, the Trafalgar Tavern is adorned with a striking and fascinating amount of maritime artwork from the owner’s private collection.
As well as show-stopping décor, the pub also offers guests the chance to enjoy live music three times a week, a weekly quiz, regular food and drink tasting sessions, supper clubs, cinema nights, history talks with a focus on the area’s history plus comedy nights and even wedding fairs.
Historic pub
The historic pub, which is Grade II-listed and dates back to 1837, is also a go-to for local community groups and is available for private hire, with regular wedding bookings.
With multiple rooms for events, the venue lends itself well to occasions of any size. The comedy nights take place in the pub’s basement bar while the live music rocks the main bar and food-led experiences take place in the building’s upstairs area.
There have also been big investments into the equipment at the site recently to complement the events, including into outdoor screens and a new sound system in the downstairs bar.
Traditional and seasonal
Looking to the future, the business, which employs around 170 people to cater for the expansive site and busy schedule, has planned to expand the entertainment offering even further, in particular with regards to seasonal events.
The Trafalgar Tavern also boasts a strong food and drink offering, which it describes as traditional and seasonal.
From classic cocktails such as Martini and Negroni to Sunday lunch and pub classics like fish & chips or burgers alongside steaks and variety of fish dishes, including Boston Clam Chowder and Dressed Crab, plus sweet treats such as crumble or profiteroles, there is plenty to keep guests satisfied.
