Cask enthusiast pub the Salisbury Ale House is celebrating Cask Ale Week after last year’s success.

The Star Pubs site in Wakefield Street, Manchester, is renowned for its cask ale and will continue the work it did last year during the current Cask Ale Week, which runs between Thursday 19 September and Sunday 29 September.

The Salisbury celebrated 2023 Cask Ale Week by running a tasting promotion for cask enthusiasts.

Attracting customers

It had eight cask ales on tap. Promotion participants received a Salisbury branded one-third of pint glass with a cask measure poured in the glass and seven tokens for £13.95 or eight tokens and no glass.

The pub paid £672 for the glasses and £13 for 2000 tokens with some 1,700 pints being sold over a 10-day period with participants able to use unused tokens at a later date.

Manager Sam Rowlinson said: “Cask Ale Week is great for attracting customers. We advertised our promotion a week before with a specially made A-board, posters and Instagram and Facebook posts.

“This year, we started marketing more than two weeks in advance to increase awareness. We have also included a pizza token to enhance the promotion’s appeal.

No additional overheads

“Customers loved the glasses. We have enough from last year so have no additional overheads. To keep costs down, pubs can just use tokens or their own in-house redemption system.

“We’re giving people their owned boxed glass this year and serve them with one-third pint pub glasses because keeping track of individual glasses can be a hassle.”

Some other on-trade businesses celebrating have Tweeted pics to show off what they are doing for the special period.
