Pubs could experience multi million pound profits due to the upcoming heatwave, according to the British Beer & Pub Association (BBPA).

The upcoming uplift in sales was based on comparison from a previous week in September 2023, which experienced similar weather conditions.

As customers head to sites throughout the UK, landlords and pub staff could pull a potential 7m extra pints with an expected 19% uplift in sales.

Additional turnover

Current prices in the UK could generate additional turnover of £34.2m for the industry. Previously, throughout this period, pubs sold a recorded 7.1m extra pints than in an average week for the rest of the month.

BBPA director of strategy and policy Andrew Tighe said: “Nothing says summer more than a pint in your local beer garden and many Brits will be raising a glass to some much-needed warm weather.

Offering insight into raised profits for the sector, he continued: “After months of wet weather, this projected windfall could bring a ray of sunshine for pubs everywhere and help raise profits for a sector that plays a unique and important role in our culture and communities up and down the UK."

According to a survey conducted in 2023 by Greene King’s Chef and Brewer Collection pubs, 40% of Brits named a pub garden to be their “happy place", demonstrating a positive response from customers throughout summer months. The research also showed, the average UK pubgoer will visit a pub garden four to five time throughout August.

Championing a message from BPBA Andrew Tighe added: “Pubs are an essential part of the British bank holiday and the BBPA urges everyone to make the most of the sunny weather by visiting their local pub.”
