Previously named Thornberries, the Alkrington pub reverted back to the Roebuck when Joseph Holt took ownership of the establishment last October. After inviting customers to decide on the title, the original name of the venue was restored.
New features of the establishment include a wraparound bar, beer garden and spacious private function room. Customers are also able to enjoy live TV and sporting events as well as a revised, extended menu.
Warm welcome
Joseph Holt pub director Mark Norbury said: “Thornberries was always the people’s pub and so much more than just a place to eat or drink, so little wonder that the Roebuck was the clear winner of our naming competition.
“Yet at the same time this is a new beginning for the pub. It`s a community pub, which extends a welcome to anyone who wants to enjoy classic Joseph Holt hospitality. But also one with a massive refurbishment that brings even more new life into the pub.”
Established 175 years ago, Joseph Holt purchased Thornberries in order to extend the geography of its estate to Alington Green.
Norbury stated: “Location is so important to us in terms of being at the heart of the community - which is why Thornberries was an obvious purchase. Equally it was clear it needed to be overhauled, refreshed, and rejuvenated.”
New beginning
Joseph Holt has been in the same family for six generations - and as an independent company is, he added, hugely respectful of heritage and tradition as well as the needs of its customers.
“Thornberries, like so many of our pubs, has been a place for charity events, social groups and other community gatherings – all the things which mark out our pubs as places which are central to the local areas they serve .
“All of which will continue under its new name, The Roebuck. At the centre of this will be a pub which serves award winning ales, delicious food as it enjoys a new beginning.”
