Pubs named in top 100 UK restaurants

Nine of the 100 best restaurants in the country are pubs, according to the 2024 National Restaurant Awards.

The list of the UK’s top 100 restaurants was announced on Monday 10 June at Magazine London by The Morning Advertiser​’s sister title Restaurant.

Brett Graham’s Notting Hill restaurant The Ledbury was named the Best Restaurant In the UK 2024, more than a decade after it last held the title.

A number of pubs also made the list including the Sportsman in Seasalter, Kent, which was revealed as number 29.

Featured pubs

Michelin-starred North Yorkshire pub the Angel at Hetton was number 27 while Parkers Arms, Newton-in-Bowland, in Lancashire came in at 51.

The French House in Soho, central London was one of many venues from the capital on the list, placing at 54 this year.

Number 56 for the 2024 list was the Unruly Pig in Bromeswell, Suffolk, which was also named number one on the 2024 Estrella Damm Top 50 Gastropubs list​, while this year’s 57th​ best restaurant in the UK was Heft in High Newton, Cumbria.

Award winners

Nestled in the village of Fordwich, the Fordwich Arms came in at number 62 while at number 80 was the Harwood Arms in Fulham, west London.

A pub was crowned Opening of the Year for the first time this year, with the Devonshire​ in Soho taking home the title.

Run by Oisín Rogers, Charlie Carroll and Ashley Palmer-Watts, the Devonshire was also awarded Gastropub of the Year.

Meanwhile, the Bull Inn, Totnes in Devon won the Estrella Damm Sustainability award, which was judged by the Sustainable Restaurant Association.

The West Country pub was recognised for its commitment to sustainability across a multitude of areas.

This included publicly communicated policies such as the ‘No-Bull Rules to Dine, Trade and Work By’, which aims to ensure transparency alongside investment in an employee assistance programme as well as the use of a heat capture system in the kitchen and its use of solar panels.
