Handling also owns Top 50 Gastropub the Loch and the Tyne in Old Windsor, which took home the title of Best Pub for Food 2023 in last year’s Great British Pub Awards.
The chef owner was awarded an MBE in the King’s 2024 New Year Honours list, for services to hospitality and international trade.
Handling described the honour as “his proudest achievement yet” at the time and highlighted how putting sustainability at the fore had always been something he focused on.
Sustainable showcase
He shared the announcement about the new pub on Instagram earlier today (Tuesday 14 May). The post said: “The secret’s out. I’m so excited to announce I’m opening a new pub in Cornwall next month.
“The Tartan Fox is completely stunning, set in a 400-year-old Grade II-listed building in the Cornish countryside, just 15 minutes from Newquay.
“The Tartan Fox will showcase sustainable British food, using the best of Cornish produce with pub classics as well as some of my signature dishes.
“I’ve always loved Cornwall so when this opportunity came up, it was one I just couldn’t refuse."
Beautiful place
He added: “The pub is completely stunning, steeped in history, set in the Cornish countryside with so much land.
“Cornwall is one of the most beautiful places in Britain and it produces some incredible ingredients.
“It’s amazing to have the chance to combine the history of this stunning building with sustainable British food, made from local Cornish ingredients.
“You might not know you’re in one of my restaurants when you walk in but you’ll know it by the time you walk out.
“Bookings open from 11 June and I really can’t wait to show you more.”
