Pub groups recognised in Sunday Times Best Places to Work 2024

Among them was multiple operator Heartwood Collection, which scored ‘excellent’ in four of the six workplace categories included in the survey.

The business is no stranger to awards as it scored success at the 2024 Publican Awards, taking home the title of Best Pub Operations Team​ and Best Managed Pub Company (2-50 sites)​.

Massive achievement

This was as well as being named Best Food Led Pub Group 2023 from The Morning Advertiser​’s sister publication Restaurant​’s R200 awards.

Hall & Woodhouse was also listed. The pub company strives to make hospitality and brewing a career choice, not just a job, encouraging internal promotions.

Moreover, Drake & Morgan was named too. Employees at the group receive a paid day off on their birthday while the workforce are encouraged to develop their skills and the business operates a mentoring scheme in partnership with Otolo.

Another businesses to be recognised was Top 50 Boutique Hotel Heckfield Place​ in Hook, Hampshire where Michelin-starred dining is on the menu for employees. Perks include half price discounts at its restaurants.

Red Engine, the business behind Flight Club and Electric Shuffle, was also included. The company offers regular learning and development sessions, management training and incentives. Its recently launched chef academy aims to keep kitchen managers up to date with culinary and people skills.

Scotland-based Signature Group was also featured. The firm nurtures talent through is Aspire and Inspire training courses for junior and senior managers as well as offering a 40% discount at its venues alongside on-the-spot rewards of up to £50 for people who go the extra mile.

Elsewhere, drinks company Jubel was recognised. It is 40% female and everyone among the 34 staff have share options, unlimited holiday, free gym classes for office-based workers, private healthcare and a £50 wellbeing monthly budget.

Another included was drinks supplier Kent-based Chapel Down. The team works in a transparent environment where cross-departmental secondments are encouraged to boost development.

Hospitality recruitment company Sixty Eight People was also named on the list. Engagement is measured quarterly, while staff are surveyed to identify areas for improvement.
