The Morning Advertiser’s Lock In podcast has been singled out as a potential award winner in the Publisher Podcast Awards.

The podcast, which aims to provide a light-hearted look into life inside the pub trade, has been running for four seasons now and covered everything from difficult customers to the joys of pub fish and chips.

The hour-ish long bi-weekly podcast is presented by MA editor Ed Bedington, news editor Nikkie Thatcher and pub operator and renown Australian (or maybe Kiwi) Heath Ball who runs the award winning Red Lion & Sun in Highgate.

The Publisher Podcast Awards has been running since 2019 and celebrate best practice  and creativity across what is a fast growing  and dynamic medium.

A little surprised

Bedington said: “We’re absolutely delighted to be shortlisted in these prestigious awards, not to mention a little surprised as at best, we’ve been aiming for mediocrity at best with the podcast.

“We need to be careful, if we are actually lucky enough to win the award people might start expecting some sort of professional standards, but on the plus side, we could maybe finally break into the double digit in listener numbers! We can but dream.

“The other drawback could be that the bosses start listening to the podcast and we might not make it to season five!”

Ironically, the latest episode of the podcast focused on award winners, and you can listen here: https://www.morningadvertiser.co.uk/Article/2024/04/09/the-morning-advertiser-s-lock-in-podcast-episode-76

Bedington added: “We look forward to hearing the results of the awards on June 12, after which we fully anticipate being able to promote ourselves as an ‘almost award-winning podcast’.”
