THE CASK PROJECT
Woodforde's unveils new cask range
Launched this earlier month, the new range will see a different member of the brewery team create their own cask ale for on-trade customers every month for the rest of this year.
It is hoped the range will help accelerate Woodforde’s cask offering and introduce customers to a wider range of beer styles.
Additionally, the pump clip for each beer will include a QR code that will take punters to a video from the brewer explaining their creations.
The range has been introduced by the Norwich-based brewery's new Head Brewer Aaron Taubman, who is looking to accelerate the firm's growth plans.
He said: “I’m really excited about the signature range – we have great people here who really know their beers, so let’s show them off.
Different ideas
“Everyone has different ideas and it’s our job in the brewhouse to bring them to life.
“We canvas them for what they would like to brew and work with them to create their perfect beer.”
The first beer to feature in the range is Aaron’s own creation, Hopstar, a 3.4% session IPA showcasing his expertise in brewing a lower ABV beer that still packs a powerful flavour punch.
He said: “It is technically hard to make a beer at 3.4% and make it taste like a 4.5% beer.
“I’ve utilised dextrin and oats to boost up the body and done some tricks in the brewhouse.
“The beer has been extensively dry hopped with Cryo hops to give it the essential ‘American’ citrussy and dank hop flavour that I love.
Give cask a boost
“Other than that, we will be using our English kit, house yeast and open fermenters to make the beer. It is very pale in colour and has an excellent frothy head.”
Moreover, Aaron added introducing customers to a wider range of cask beer styles is exactly what the industry needs.
He said: “I really like cask beer. And we can make very good cask beer very easily here at Woodforde’s.
“There are so many great cask brands out there – with the likes of our Wherry, Volt and Nelson’s Revenge to name a few – but the way to really give cask a boost is offering drinkers even more exciting styles, too.”
The Brewer Signature range will run alongside Woodforde’s usual seasonal range, which also features a different cask ale every month.
Operators looking to stock Woodforde's new range should contact the brewery directly.
