The MA Leaders Club will be hitting the pavements of Liverpool next month and we can now announce the full line up of speakers and study tour venues.

The conference will be taking place on Thursday 7 March at Liverpool’s Pins Social Club – an immersive experience venue on Duke Street.

We’ll hear from local operators John Ennis, Paul Senior and Elaine Clarke about operating in the city alongside the opportunities and challenges in the market.

UKHospitality chief executive Kate Nicholls will be setting out her vision for the year ahead as a general election looms.

Delegates will also find out how they can engineer menus for maximum efficiency and returns from 2Forks co-founder Annica Wainwright.

Sixty Eight People’s Abi Dunn will be giving her insight into what really matters to managers in the industry.

Are you in the club?

The MA Leaders Club is open to multi-site pub operators and meets three times a year around the country for a day of business-focused presentations from top experts and owner/operators. The day is followed by an evening study tour of new and exciting venues.

If you’re interested in joining and attending this stellar event, register here.

We will also be looking ahead to what 2024 is expected to bring with Laine Pub Co managing director Russell Danks and Admiral chief executive Chris Jowsey.

With a challenge market, are people brave enough to launch new ventures? Yes and three of them will be joining us – Oisin Rogers of the Devonshire, former supplier turned publican James Kowszon and Maria Harris who has bought the pub next door.

Greene King will be taking a look at the challenges around the ale category alongside what can be learned from outside of the category and how this can be applied to the future.

Meanwhile, serial entrepreneur Clive Watson will reveal his thoughts on the sector after the sale of City Pub Co to Youngs, his experience over the years and where he sees things going.

We'll be visiting the following venues on the study tour in the vibrant city of Liverpool:

The Bridewell

Located close to the Liverpool One shopping centre, Albert Dock and the river front, the Bridewell has a rich history.

The property was built in the 1840s and was largely used as a lock up, with seven cells housing more than 100 ‘guests” a month.

A Grade II-listed police ‘bridewell’ that dates back to the 19th century, the cells are now used as seating areas alongside original heavy doors and hatches to send customers back in time.

Nowadays, the pub is wet led and doesn’t serve food but customers are welcome to purchase takeaway food from nearby Italian restaurant Amalia and consume at the Bridewell.

Cask is on offer at the pub, which was a 2023 Great British Pub Awards finalist in the Best City/Urban category, including one local beer and a range of craft keg and continental brews.

Present Company

Serving world-class cocktails in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere with great music is at the heart of Present Company.

The cocktail bar opened in 2019 and has become a key destination for locals and city visitors alike.

The menu is printed on a vinyl record with cocktails on the back cover, featuring ingredients and flavour notes.

While drinks including cocktails, beers and wines is at the fore, Present Company also serves a menu of grazing dishes.

Ropes & Twines

Speciality coffee shop and wine bar in the Ropewalks area of Liverpool, Ropes and Twines sources and serves the highest quality produce from all over the world.

The venue opened its doors in 2018 and offers a sanctuary from the bustle of Bold Street, priding itself on excellent wine, speciality coffee and conversation.

It describes itself as “a place of love, science, art and soul: a heart that beats on Bold Street, like no drum ever could.

“A place of encounter, return, sad and hurts.”

Albert’s Schloss

Established in 2022, the Liverpool site was the third Albert’s Schloss concept following venues in Manchester and Birmingham.

Housed in a building that was the Liverpool Gas Company, the property had previously remained empty since 2019.

Its Anglo-Bavarian design is spread across two floors with the ground floor featuring a stage area, two bars, a fresh bier tank system and ‘Cook Haus’ dining area.

The first floor is home to ‘Ludwig’s Tavern’ – offering artisan Schnapps, a vermouth bar, shuffleboard and other tavern games.

MA Leaders Club is sponsored by headline partner Molson Coors and associate partners BOC, Davey Co, Greene King, Iconic Project Management, Nationwide Energy, OrderPay, Poppleston Allen and Zonal.
