'Tis the season: JDW's Christmas menu will be available from 15 November

JD Wetherspoon (JDW) has raised the price of its Christmas dinner by 13% for 2023, but the pub goliath claims it’s still “excellent value”.

The operator will be serving its festive menu from Wednesday 15 November to Sunday 31 December, with the exception of Christmas Day.

Customers can dig into sliced turkey breast and winter vegetables, as well as a selection of three burgers – the big cheese burger, a brie & bacon burger, and a chicken & stuffing burger.

Two 11-inch pizzas will also be available: a chicken, stuffing, bacon & brie pizza, and a brie & garlic mushroom pizza.

A JDW spokesperson said: “The price increase is line with price increases on food this year at Wetherspoon.

“We still believe this is an excellent value for money offer across all of our Xmas meals.”

Festive food

JDW will also serve up ‘deli deals’ at its pubs, which will feature a chicken, stuffing, bacon & cranberry panini and a brie & cranberry panini.

Small plates, a children’s meal and a choice of desserts will also be available.

The small plates are an eight-inch chicken, stuffing, bacon & brie pizza and an eight-inch brie & garlic mushroom pizza, the big cheese chips and also pigs-in-blankets.

The children’s menu will be comprised of pigs-in-blankets, served with two side options (roasted veg, cucumber slices, tomato wedges, peas or baked beans) and one potato option (from jacket potato, chips and mashed potato).

A salted caramel sticky toffee pudding and a mince tart will also be available.

This comes after data from Barclaycard showed spending in pubs and bars grew 5.9% in the year to October.

Xmas openings

Barclays director Esme Harwood said: "Brits cut back on non-essential categories in October, as thoughts turned to saving for Christmas and budgeting for winter fuel bills.”

More than half of pubs will open just for lunch on Christmas Day, a snap poll by The Morning Advertiser recently revealed.

Of 131 respondents to the survey, 58% said they would just open for lunch on 25 December.

31% of pubs said they would not open at all.

Only 8% of pubs said they would open all day, with 3% opening from lunch until close.

Only 1% of respondents will open just in the evening.
