Leeds-based brewer and operator North Brewing has announced has opened its first international bar in Treviso, Italy.

North Bar Treviso offers 13 tap lines alongside an extensive cocktail, wine and spirits menu with nine of the taps exclusively dedicated to North’s range of brews.

Furthermore, the Italian bar, which opened its doors to the public earlier this month (October), also features an on-site barbecue grill, serving burgers, sandwiches and beef joints.

While North Bar Treviso is the group’s first international establishment, it operates 11 other bars and taprooms in the UK.

This included in 2022, the multi-site operator took its first steps outside of its home county by opening its ninth site in Birmingham.

Significant milestone

This was followed by the 10th in Manchester, which opened at the beginning of 2023. North Bar: Circle Square offers a varied drinks range and serves Asian street food from long-time food partners Little Bao Boy.

Meanwhile in November last year, North co-founder Christian Townsley told The Morning Advertiser the firm’s plans for expansion.

Co-founder John Gyngell said: “North Bar Treviso is a significant milestone for us as a brewery.

“We’re excited to bring our passion for craft beer to Treviso and to introduce our unique brews to the Italian market.

“We believe this partnership with On Tap Agency will enable us to create a special space for beer enthusiasts and newcomers alike.”

In April this year, the company revealed it had secured £375,000 in funding to finance international growth.

Company history

The package, which was supplied by Bibby Financial Services, also supported the business’s cashflow.

North Bar started on New Briggate high street in 1997 by Townsley and Gyngell. They founded North Brewing Co in 2015, brewing their own range of local craft beers.

Six years later, the group opened Springwell – a 21,000sq ft former Victorian tannery, which North converted into a modern brewery and taproom during the pandemic.

The brewing capacity at Springwell enabled North to expand its range and it went on to launch gluten-free and alcohol-free beers, brewed international collaborations and developed a cask range.
