Weston's Cider has expanded its Stowford Press cider portfolio with the introduction of a new dark berry flavoured variant, boasting notes of blackcurrant and sweet blackberry.

The Herefordshire-based brand cidermakers said Stowford Press Dark Berry cider (4% ABV) aimed to move the brand away from mixed berry flavours into the dark berry category in line with consumer demand, after recent data from CGA showed many were looking for cherry, blackberry or blackcurrant offerings instead.

Stowford Press brand manager Holly Chadwick said: “We launched Stowford Press Mixed Berry five years ago to ensure pubs and bars were able to make the most of the fast-growing fruit cider sub-category.

“As the market matures, we’re updating our offering to ensure we remain set to best serve loyal fruit cider drinkers – who are overwhelmingly choosing darker fruit flavours year-round.

“Following an incredibly successful trial period, we’re delighted to be introducing our updated berry offering to pubs and bars nationwide.”

Adnams introduces new collaborative brew

Adams brewery has partnered with Cheltenham-based DEYA Brewing Company to release a new pale ale, Boat Trip (4% ABV).

The golden beer has been brewed with Simcoe, Citra and Mystic hops as well as Rye Crystal and Vienna malt alongside Adnams house strain yeast and a touch of elderflower, resulting in citrus, stone and berry fruit notes.

In addition, Suffolk-based Adnams advised Boat Trip pale ale pairs well with Persian-style lamb flatbreads or a spiced aubergine brioche burger with pickled cucumber.

Adnams head brewer Dan Goodham said: “On the nose, there will be peach and lime, with underlying floral notes.

“The palate should have a slight zing to balance the fruit and elderflower, with lots more orange and citrus flavours present. It will finish with a mellow bitterness and lots more zing.”

The new serve is a homage to Adnams co-founder, George, who had a chance encounter with a crocodile whilst living in South Africa.

Generations later, another chance encounter at a hop selection in Yakima, brought Goodham, together with DEYA Head Brewer Gareth Moore and Owner Theo Freyne.

Bonding over a mutual love of Simcoe, Citra and Mystic hops, and a shared respect for crocodiles, the trio set off on a Boat Trip together to create the “adventurous” new brew.

Boat Trip will be available to the on-trade from Wednesday 28 June in cask, keg or 440ml can format direct from Adnams, with the latter costing £29.99 for a pack of 12. An off-trade launch is also planned for Thursday 6 July.

Staffordshire-based Titanic Brewery has announced the launch of a new lager to celebrate a new look for its range of keg beers.

Two:20 Lager is a 4% ABV Helles lager, brewed with premium lager yeast and a blend of Noble European hops.

Titanic head of marketing David Glenwright said: “For some time we have been asked to add a lager to our core range.

“Following the recent success of our seasonal Vienna cask lager, we decided that now was the right time to perfect and release Titanic’s very first keg lager, and we can’t wait to hear what our customers think of it.

Two:20 Lager joins the brands three other keg products, Anytime IPA, Plum Porter, and the newly renamed True Stout, which are all receiving a colourful new look.

Glenwright added: “We’ve been brewing our award winning Stout for 30 years, and whilst the recipe remains unchanged, we felt it was time to give this flagship brand a bit of an update.

Two:20 Lager, along with the new-look keg range, will be available to the on-trade direct from the brewery from Monday 26 June.

Vapoura, a new English rum brand, has launched with two expressions, Gold and Spiced, both 42% ABV.

Distilled in small batches using traditional copper pot stills, the molasses-based rum offers notes of vanilla, turmeric, cardamom and citrus with a hint of tobacco, caramel and chocolate, fermented with what the brand described as a “unique yeast strain method”.

Vapoura Rum CEO and co-founder Charles Barkley said: “After years of painstaking refinement, we are immensely proud to finally introduce Vapoura to the public.

“We embody a genuinely premium rum experience, that is 100% produced and developed on English soil - a rarity in the rum sector.

“Selecting the right notes and ingredients to elevate the raw molasses has been perfected by our master distiller Dr John Walters, affectionately known as The Rum Wizard, and has opened our eyes to the sheer quality of rum Vapoura is able to create.

“Combining a traditionally artisanal approach with our proprietary distillation process, we are proud to say we have created a liquid that truly speaks for itself.

“Bringing a renewed purpose and passion for experimentation to the ever-admired rum category - we can’t wait to get it in people’s hands”.

Vapoura Gold Rum and Vapoura Spiced Rum will both be available direct from the brand’s webshop from Thursday 29 June in 70cl bottle format at RRP £65 and £50 respectively, with listings already secured at select London bars including The Mandrake Hotel.
