This comes after the debut Pedalling 2 Pubs ride fundraised more than £75,000.
The money will be split between two hospitality charities, The Licensed Trade Charity and Only A Pavement Away, it was announced at the British Institute of Innkeeping (BII) Summer Event on Tuesday (20 June).
Pedalling for Pubs founder and KAM managing director Katy Moses said she was “overwhelmed” by the final amount raised.
She said it really showed what hospitality was all about, and she thanked those that took part for their “truly inspiring” effort and energy.
Professionals across the sector took part in two rides to raise the sum. 26 fundraisers tackled more than 450km of hills and challenging terrain in Sri Lanka for Pedalling for Pubs in April.
Then, 50 other fundraisers cycled across the Yorkshire Wolds countryside in June over a three-day ride.
Changing lives
Moses continued: “The introduction of the Pedalling 2 Pubs UK ride has been such a brilliant addition to the campaign and has been instrumental in achieving this fundraising total. It’s clear that there is huge appetite among the hospitality industry to get involved with Pedalling for Pubs whether it is at home or abroad, and to fundamentally support these great charities.
“With such momentum behind this fundraising campaign, I’m excited to see how it can grow, and how the money raised will change people’s lives for the better.”
Looking ahead
Alongside the cyclists, supporting partners and sponsors, which included KAM, Greene King, Wireless Social, Lucky Saint, BII, Airship/Toggle, Barclaycard, Punch Pubs, Marston’s and Fleet Street, helped make the fundraising possible.
The 2023 total has surpassed the 2022 total by more than £125,000.
In 2024, Pedalling for Pubs fundraisers are set to cycle across Kenya, while organisers have confirmed Pedalling 2 Pubs will return for a second year.
