Following the acquisition, the Masham based brewery, which was founded in 1992 and employs some 150 people, said it was “pleased” to announce it had become Black Sheep Brewing Company Limited, trading as Black Sheep Brewery.
A spokesperson for the new Black Sheep Brewing Company said: “This marks the next chapter in the history of Black Sheep as we look to grow the business in a sustainable way.
Strategic review
“Our team will continue to produce great beers from our landmark brewery in Masham and we also look forward to welcoming customers and tourists to all our retail sites.
“Breal has a proven track record of successfully transforming and growing the businesses it acquires through the private capital, operational resources, and strategic expertise it brings and we look forward to working closely with the team.”
Earlier this month, Black Sheep announced it had filed a notice of intention to appoint administrators Teneo as part of its “strategic review” to explore funding options with a view to take the business forward amid prevailing economic conditions.
Important addition
The award-winning company’s chief executive and chair Charlene Lyons explained the decision was taken to “protect the business and its creditors”.
Lyons added the business had been “hit very hard” by the pandemic and a “perfect storm” of rising costs across the board.
Leading on the acquisition, Freeths’ restructuring partner John Jeffreys said: “We are extremely pleased to have supported our client Breal Capital in this acquisition which represents an important addition to its existing portfolio.
“The future of this well-loved Brewery has been secured with Breal’s support and we wish them every success.”
