New ownership: Farr Brew will take over the pub in Tring

The Bell in Tring, Hertfordshire, has reopened its doors under new ownership after a £300,000 investment by pub owner Greene King Pub Partners.

The pub will be operated by multiple operator and Hertfordshire-based brewery Farr Brew. Farr Brew also operates the Elephant & Castle in Wheathampstead with Greene King Pub Partners, which recently won ‘Best Rural Craft Beer Pub’ at the SIBA Business Awards 2023.

The Bell, which is believed to be one of the oldest pubs in Tring, has been transformed into an upmarket and contemporary pub.

Greene King Pub Partners managing director Dan Robinson said: “I am delighted to be growing our successful business partnership with Farr Brew as we help it to grow its award-winning pub business.

“I look forward to seeing the Bell go from strength-to-strength as its second pub with us.”

Major makeover

Inside, the pub has been completely redecorated with new fixtures and fittings, including new seating, lighting, tables, and a newly built bar.

Outside, the pub’s courtyard garden has also been undergone a makeover into a new eating and drinking area.

Farr Brew founders Nick Farr and Matt Elvidge, who are also now operators of the Bell, said: “As a growing pub operation, we are delighted to have opened our second pub in partnership with Greene King Pub Partners.

“The pub has been transformed through its investment and we look forward to welcoming new customers through its doors to experience our great beer and wonderful hospitality.”

High-end food & drink

The pub will serve Farr Brew’s ales alongside a food menu of pub classics, a la carte options, and light bites. All food will be sourced from high-end suppliers and producers.

It’s one of many Greene King Pub Partners sites to reopen with fresh new looks in recent months.

For instance, Greene King site the Prince of Wales in Moseley, Birmingham, reopened in April following a £400,000 investment from the pubco’s leased, tenanted, and franchised division.

The pub, which is owned by Greene King Pub Partners, has benefitted from refurbishment both inside and outside, while remaining sympathetic to its heritage.

It wis now operated by multiple operator Sheldon Inns, which also run other pubs in partnership with Greene King Pub Partners.
