Margarita named UK's most popular cocktail

Analysis of Google search data by MGN showed the nation had searched for a variety of terms including ‘[cocktail ​name] recipe’, ‘how to make a [cocktail name] and ‘[cocktail ​name] ingredients’ for more than 350 different cocktails.

However, the Margarita, which consists of lime juice, triple sec and Tequila, took the top spot with a total monthly search volume of 83,750.

Luxury and sophistication 

MGN events Creative Director Matthew Strange said: “No matter the occasion, serving cocktails ​when entertaining can provide an element of luxury and sophistication, but there’s so many out there to choose from that it can be difficult to narrow the list down."

The Pornstar Martini came in at number two with a combine monthly search volume of 80,600 while the Mojito was named the third most popular cocktail with a monthly search volume of 71,290.

Previously, the Pornstar Martini has been ranked the UK’s most popular cocktail, according to figures from Revolution Bars​, with more than 364,000 sold across the bar group's estate last year.

Diverse flavours

Other cocktails that made the top ten list included Espresso Martini, Pina Colada and Old fashioned.

Strange added: “This study has determined that Brits’ favourite cocktails are quite varied given the range of ingredients, specifically the alcohol, including tequila, vodka, and white rum​.

“With there being such diverse flavours in the top 10, there’s something suited to everyone’s taste.”
