Countryside pub licensee celebrates decade anniversary
Allan Marks runs the White Lion in Soberton, which is a traditional countryside pub owned by Admiral Taverns.
The licensee had previously had an 18 year long career aboard ships before he started at the pub just over 10 years ago.
The White Lion features a cosy bar area with log fire, three ensuite bedrooms, surrounded by the scenery of the Hampshire countryside.
Brilliant community pub
Since taking on the pub, Marks has worked hard to create a country pub that emulates its surroundings, with the area providing inspiration for the décor and food.
He said: “Working in such a brilliant community pub for the past 10 years has been absolutely fantastic.
“I am very grateful to everyone that has been a part of the journey so far and visited the pub, as well as my wonderful team who have been a great support.
“I cannot wait to see what is to come in the future and meet many more amazing people.”
Food and drink offer
The pub offers a variety of drinks including premium lagers, ciders and ales, alongside a plethora of spirits and wines as well as non-alcoholic options.
Its food offer is cooked on site by hand using locally sourced ingredients with Marks priding himself on gastropub classic dishes.
Admiral Taverns business development manager Nick Lawson congratulated the licensee on reaching the milestone anniversary.
Lawson added: “He has taken the pub from strength to strength and is loved by the local community. At Admiral, we are committed to working with dedicated licensees who strive for brilliant pubs within their communities and Allan is a great example. We cannot wait to see what he has to offer in the years to come.”
