Renovation to begin at iconic Inn Collection site
The pubs with rooms operator, which has sites across north England and north Wales, will start the work this month (January 2023) at Patterdale, near Ullswater, with developer GSSArchitecture.
Included in the plans are the introduction of a new canopied entrance, refurbished external facades including window and roof replacements plus new signage.
The site was acquired by the Inn Collection Group in February last year with a planning application submitted in July.
Number of developments
The Inn Collection Group is partnering with GSSArchitecture across a number of developments in its portfolio, including Ambleside venues the Waterhead Inn and the Wateredge Inn, in addition to the project transforming Tynemouth’s The Park Hotel into The Tynemouth Castle Inn.
The Glennridding Hotel sits within the English Lake District World Heritage Site and has parts of the building dating back to the 1860s; it was also used as a base by British record breaker Donald Campbell during his successful attempt to raise the World Water Speed record beyond 200mph in July 1955.
As well as alterations to the existing bedrooms, the existing spa area will be removed to create additional bedspaces and the hotel’s hospitality services will also be further improved.
Excited to get to work
The Inn Collection Group property director Louise Stewart said: “We are delighted to be working with GSSArchitecture and bringing their expertise to the refurbishment of the Glenridding Hotel, continuing our fruitful partnership with them.
“The Glenridding Hotel is an iconic site that we were delighted to bring into group and are excited to get work started on a redevelopment we are confident guests will love them once completed.
Simon Rennison-Rae, partner at GSSArchitecture, added: “We are thrilled the works at Glenridding have been granted planning permission, which is a great result for the local area and The Inn Collection’s continued investment in the region.”
The Inn Collection Group is a leading pub with rooms company owned by The Harris Family Trusts and supported with banking from OakNorth Bank.
