BrewDog and Roxy Lanes launch sites, Greene King and Butcombe acquire pubs
BrewDog launches Las Vegas bar
BrewDog has opened its biggest bar to date in Las Vegas today (2 December), and one customer is in with a chance to win a $1m (approximately £834,110) bar tab.
The 96-tap carbon-negative site will open on Friday 2 December on the Las Vegas Strip. The $1m prize, up for grabs for attendees at the launch, is redeemable in any BrewDog bar around the world for the next twenty years.
The two floors of the Nevada-based craft beer site overlook the MGM New York-New York hotel, and the rooftop bar sports a 30-foot-high neon BrewDog logo.
Lobster mac ‘n’ cheese, tacos and oak-fired chicken are just some of the dishes that will be served at the bar. Scottish food including haggis and the Flying Scotsman beef patty will also be on offer.

GK Pub Partners pumps £500k into 25th Hive pub
Greene King’s leased, tenanted and franchise arm Pub Partners has opened its 25th Hive Pub, following a £500,000 investment.
The Rose & Thistle in Reading, Berkshire opened last week (Thursday 24 November), after being closed for more than two years amid the pandemic.
The investment included a renovation to the pub and its garden, which now features beach huts and covered outdoor seating, alongside new wooden furniture.
Sport will be a key focus at the site meaning Sky Sports and BT Sports subscriptions are in place as well as a dart board.

Inn Collection Group reaches 7th heaven
Newcastle-based pubs with rooms operator The Inn Collection Group has taken over the Wordsworth Hotel – its seventh acquisition of the year.
The site in the village of Grasmere, Ambleside, Cumbria, is a 38-room business that opened almost 150 years ago as the Rothay Hotel in 1874.
The building, which was originally constructed as a hunting lodge for the Earl of Cadogan and once welcomed former US President Woodrow Wilson as a guest, becomes the group’s latest investment into the Grasmere area, joining existing property the Swan on Keswick Road and new staff accommodation facilities under construction for the group’s growing workforce in the UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Butcombe pub reopens after refurb
The Prince of Burford, Oxfordshire, has reopened with a new look for the festive season.
The Butcombe Pubs & Inns site has had an interior transformation, with wood panelled walls, exposed beamed ceilings and arts & crafts-inspired wallpapers now featuring alongside fireplaces, buttoned banquette seating and upholstered blue velvet cocktail chair.
The walls are covered with curios and equestrian-themed art, lit by chandeliers and statement wall and pendant fittings.
The 16 guest rooms and ensuite bathrooms have also been remodelled.
The Prince of Burford general manager Chris Young said: “We’re incredibly proud of the new look. It’s quite a transformation from the previous incarnation and we’re hoping locals and new visitors will enjoy the changes we’ve made to the décor and the addition of our award-winning food and drink offering.
“A warm welcome awaits all our guests and with Christmas just around the corner, we’re the perfect setting to relax, come together and celebrate with loved ones.”
Downstairs has also been transformed with the addition of a purpose-built wood panelled bar with copper gantries and a tiled black bar, forming part of a newly designed ‘casual’ area complete with snug and a reception space.
This follows through to a new dining space and restaurant with chandeliers.
The garden also now boasts a timber built, covered pergola and large decked area.
Barkby Group acquires 19th century pub
Barkby Group PLC has acquired the leasehold of 19th century pub the Eliot Arms in South Cerney, Gloucestershire.
The pub with rooms has undergone a revamp and marks the Group’s second acquisition of the year.
Barkby Group executive chairman Charles Dickson said: “The Eliot Arms’ location in the Gloucestershire countryside is highly complementary to our existing portfolio of premium pubs.
“The pub will offer a high-class F&B and accommodation experience, and I very much welcome the site into the Barkby Group.”
3 London pubs hit market
Savills has been appointed to market three London pubs which previously formed part of the Harcourt Inns estate.
The Crown in Chiswick, west London the Three Cranes in the City, central London and the Harcourt in Marylebone, central London are being considered for sale either individually or as a portfolio.
Savills licensed leisure team director Paul Breen said it was “extremely rare” to see freehold properties of this quality being brought to the market.
He continued: “The pubs have all been tastefully refurbished in recent years and are presented in excellent order.
“They represent a fantastic opportunity for established operators and new entrants to acquire properties in some of London’s most exclusive locations.”
Roxy Lanes comes to Edinburgh
Competitive gaming venue Roxy Lanes opened in Edinburgh, Scotland on 18 November.
The Rose Street venue is the 13th site for Roxy Leisure, and their first in Scotland. It boasts a capacity of more than 300 and offers a wide and exciting range of activities.
Guests can expect to enjoy activities like ten-pin bowling, battling cages, karaoke rooms and ice-free curling lanes.
Duck pin bowling, American pool, shuffleboard and basketball are also on offer. Live sports will also be shown.
The venue’s cocktail menu offers ‘Roxy Signature’ drinks such as Rock ’N’ Roll Star, ‘Roxy Classics’ like Pingstar Martini, ‘Roxy Serves’ such as Blood Orange G&T, and ‘Roxy Low & Nos’ like Virgin Lychee & Raspberry Smash. The venue also features 16 lines of beer and a wide selection of spirits and wines.
Joel Mitchell, Roxy Leisure’s commercial manager, said: “We are so pleased to be bringing Roxy Lanes to Scotland for the first time. As we open our doors in Edinburgh, we are looking forward to showing this amazing city what Roxy is all about.
