Smirnoff Red most sold spirit of the year

Smirnoff Red, Captain Morgans Spiced and Jagermeister were the top three best-selling spirits in 2022, the Drinks List 2023 has revealed.

Following an increase in value of 157.1% from £552.8m to £1,421.5m, Smirnoff Red has remained the most sold spirit over the past 12 months, with sales of its 9-litre cases (lcs) rising by 150.2% this year from 527,555 to 1,320,014 last year.

Moving two spaces up the list, Captain Morgans Spiced Rum took second place on the list with an increase in volume of 167.5% and uplift in value from £140.6m to £389.2m while remaining at third place was Jagermesiter, with sales of 9lcs increasing by 95.4% from 144,532 to 282,356.

Best-selling 

Despite being the most sold serve over the past 12 months in the gin category, Gordons Pink Gin moved down two spaces to fourth place in the spirits category with a rise in value and volume of 66.9% and 63% respectively.

However, Gordons original variant, which took second place in the gin category, remained the fourth best-selling spirit of the year having seen its sales of 9lcs rise from 106,909 to 251,625 and a 144.2% uplift in value.

Jack Daniels stayed in sixth place this year with a 154.6% rise in value from £107.8m to £274.5m and a 145.65% uplift in sales of 9lcs from 93,537 to 229,722, while Baileys moved one space up the list to seventh place following a rise in sales of 9lcs from 57,256 to 138,662 and an increase in value of 147.9% over the past 12 months.

New entries 

A new entry for 2023, Absolut Blue was the eighth best-selling spirit of 2022 with a 212.9% rise in value from £56.4m last year to £176.4% and a 199% uplift to sales of 9lcs from 44,293 to 132,430, the biggest increases in both volume and value on this year’s list.

Bacardi Carta Blanca remained in ninth place with a 92.1% increase in sales of 9lcs from 55,384 to 106,403 and a 99.4% rise in value over the past 12 months.

Another new entry for the Drinks List 2023 and coming in at number 10, Amaretto Disaronno saw a 139.7% rise in sales of 9lcs from 43,692 last year to 104,711 this year and a 142.6% increase in value from £47.9m to £116.3m over the past 12 months.
