The Gomshall Mill, near Guildford in Surrey is the company’s first newly purchased pub and opened its doors just in time for the festive season (Thursday 1 December).
The first phase of the renovation included a full refurbishment of the pub’s internal footprint, which works with the architecture and design of the 17th century original mill.
Its original features have been restored and repaired in a bid to enhance the building’s character.
New look
Updates include new bathrooms, bar, décor, theming and furnishings throughout, inspired by the area the pub is in.
Phase two of the refurb is ongoing and will concentrate on the exterior of the pub, including its garden and patio.
NDP co-founder and British Institute of Innkeeping chair Mark Robson said: “We are thrilled to have opened the doors to our first, newly acquired pub since establishing New Dawn.
“The Gomshall Mill is such a fantastic site and we are looking forward to becoming a key part of the community there, creating new jobs, supporting the local supply chain and building a reputable and enviable destination pub.”
Company inception
In July, The Morning Advertiser reported Robson and fellow directors Mark Williams, Julian Clarke and Julie Phipps formed NDP, following the completion of the sell-out of Red Mist Leisure to Red Lion Holdings.
At the time of NDP’s conception, Robson said: “We plan for all New Dawn Pubs to lead the way in design and authenticity and to offer a fantastic environment for our customers to enjoy quality food and drink in; somewhere they’ll want to return to for every occasion.
“We have great pride in what we have achieved previously, and this new pub is an exciting opportunity for us to create something new and wonderful for our guests.”
The founders said they were relishing the opportunity to have a smaller portfolio of pubs and were looking to focus on delivering a “quality product and service, a united, enthusiastic team, and targeted, sustainable growth”.
