Licensees George and Louise Greenway began brewing at the site in 2017 and subsequently opened the pub, but since then have expanded the venue to include an outdoor kitchen, bar, and on-site shop as well as the 3bbl micro-brewery.
Medieval fairy tale
The garden feels like a medieval fairy-tale, with the castle looming in the background, pretty lights adorning the historic bricks and hops and flowers planted around the grounds, while inside the Tap is decorated to encapsulate a welcoming Belgian style-bar.
Sitting unassumingly in the middle of Tamworth’s Market Street, this pub offers the perfect place to take in the views of the castle, listen to music and try some of the eight cask ale, variety of Belgian serves or 20 draught ciders, to name just a small selection of the pub’s drinks offering.
Furthermore, there is always something to do at the Tamworth Tap, whether the operators are immersing themselves in helping support the local community or hosting ‘paint and sip’ art sessions, live music, cinema nights, markets or even bat watching, the pub offers weekly events to suit everyone, many of which take place in the breath-taking garden.
Award-winning
The 16th century pub, which has previously won CAMRA Staffordshire Pub of the Year and was West Midlands Regional Pub of the Year runner up, was crowned the best pub garden in country at the GBPA event on Tuesday 4 October.
Being presented with the award, licensee George Greenway said he was in “shock”.
The duos care for their customers and passion for the pub was made clear to everyone in attendance at event, held at Escape to Freight Island in Manchester, as when asked what made the site stand out, Greenway answered “fantastic customers that have supported us”.
