GBPA 2022
Meet the winner: Best Pub for Food sponsored by Booker/Makro – Shibden Mill Inn, Halifax, West Yorkshire
The 17th century pub’s idyllic location means visitors can also make the most of the outdoors with wonderful walks on its doorstep and world-class attractions within easy reach.
Head chef Will Webster heads up the kitchen brigade, creating sumptuous dishes with the freshest ingredients, with some as local as the kitchen garden just across the road.
With two restaurants, 11 individually styled bedrooms and a lively bar, team members at the pub are kept busy throughout the year.
Warm welcome
The welcome guests receive at the pub is second to none, friendly and professional with a special skill to make every visitor feel relaxed and at home.
Its bar a la carte menu is of two AA Rosette standard and shows off the strong talent and skills of the kitchen team.
The grill room serves the finest-quality, locally reared beef, as well as delicious lamb, chicken and fish dishes, cooked over charcoal for an intense, smoky flavour.
Dishes on the monthly-changing menu often include salt-aged beef loin, served with beef fat potato, leek, caramelised horseradish and an ox cheek pasty.
Historic heritage
Will’s seven-course tasting menu is available Monday to Saturday and features scallop, venison, brill and more.
Roaring fires create an intimate atmosphere during the winter months and when the weather warms up, the Shibden Mill boasts a large courtyard garden including additional food options from its pizza oven.
On the bar, there are Cask Marque-accredited regional ales making the pub not only a hit with foodies but beer lovers too alongside an array of wines, interesting gins and whiskies to whet all whistles.
Of course, this historic pub has a rich history including being in close proximity to Shibden Hall – the home of local legend Anne Lister, whom the TV programme Gentleman Jack was based on.
