Greene King giving away free pints
Guests visiting a Greene King Local Pub or a Flaming Grill site today (Monday 30 May) will be able to claim a free pint of Greene King IPA using the secret code word ‘1952’ at the bar.
While it was originally reported pints were going to be sold for 6p, due to licensing laws, this has now changed and the drinks will be free of charge instead.
Royally good deal
A Greene King spokesperson said: “Our pub and brewery teams are so excited to be celebrating the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee with a variety of events this week. One of the ideas we had was for a promotion in 400 of our managed pubs where customers could buy one pint each of Greene King IPA for 6p today – the same price it was in 1952.
"We thought this was a great way to celebrate this remarkable occasion and we’ve been thrilled at the response from customers. However, we have some good news for everyone, which is that we will now be giving the Jubilee first pint of Greene King IPA away free of charge today, as we now understand it’s not permissible under the licensing act to charge the 6p."
Meanwhile, earlier this month (May), a pub from Greene King’s Farmhouse Inns unveiled a royal throne, made from carvery ingredients ahead of the Platinum Jubilee.
Event celebrations
The throne, consisting of Yorkshire puddings, roast potatoes and veg, is certainly fit for a Queen and was commissioned by Bramley Farm general managers Julianne Martin and Donna Piling.
What’s more, ahead of the June celebrations, Farmhouse Inns’ greater Manchester-based Bramley Farm is temporarily rebranding to Ma’amhouse Inns, with a brand-new royal banner added to the exterior of the pub.
The carvery throne forms the first of many Jubilee celebrations for Farmhouse Inns, which is known for its carvery and cake offering, as sites across the UK will be decorate the four-day bank holiday weekend.
