Bottling the magic of the sea: Hendrick's new gin is inspired by the coastal walks and sound of the waves in Scotland

Hendrick's bottles magic of the Scottish coastline

Hendricks.Neptunia.Bottle

Hendrick's Gin has expanded its portfolio with Hendrick's Neptunia (43.4% ABV), the latest creation from Master Distiller Ms. Lesley Gracie’s Cabinet of Curiosities.

Inspired by the distillers dog walks along the Scottish coastline while listening to the sound of the waves, the new offering from Hendrick's aims to bottle the magic of the sea, infused with coastal botanicals and boasting citrus notes.

To mark the launch, the gin company lit up three lighthouses with artistic projected transformations.

The landmark lighthouses were Belle Tout in East Sussex, Bidston Lighthouse on The Wirral, and Girvan, home of the Hendrick’s Gin Palace, in Scotland, which were transformed by contemporary British artist, Claire Luxton, inspired by the history and landscape of each lighthouse and its local area, as well as the natural world around us.

Hendrick’s has also partnered with Project Seagrass, which is dedicated to the conservation of seagrass ecosystems, supporting with seagrass meadow restoration projects close to Scotland's Girvan Harbour Lighthouse and the Hendrick’s Gin Palace.

Rare French apples take centre stage in Galipette's new offering

Award-wining cider brand, Galipette, has launched new offering Rosé Sku (4% ABV).

Galipette's latest craft cider offering is made with rare red-flesh apples, Pommes à Chair Rouge, from the orchards of Brittany and Normandy, which give it its authentic rosé character, taste, and deep amber colour, allowing the hand-picked French apples to take centre stage, without any unnecessary sugars, sweeteners or additives.

The lightly textured rosé cider, which is gluten free and vegan friendly, offers notes of fresh berries and aromas of blackcurrant leaf and is made using traditional artisan methods of keeving & wild yeast fermentation, preventing the yeast from fully fermenting the cider apples so their natural and fruity sweetness remains.

Galipette, which won Category Champion in the Bartenders Brands Awards in April 2021 and 2022, Rosé is available now alongside the brands other products from Waitrose in 330ml bottles at RRP £2.

Sheperd Neame announces limited edition ale

Sheperd Neame May Bee

Independent family brewer Shepherd Neame has teamed up with family-run business, Paynes Bee Farm, to launch a new golden-amber honey ale, May Bee (4.3% ABV).

May Bee offers malt and sweet honey flavours, balanced with peppery spice, fruit notes and floral aromas, while crystal malt gives the ale a deep golden hue, with oats used to create smooth mouth feel.

Shepherd Neame technical brewer Danielle Whelan said: “With spring in the air, May Bee is the perfect pint as the weather brightens up, offering drinkers a well-rounded yet complex beer.

“The team and I had a lot of fun brewing May Bee, carefully pouring the honey into the coppers by hand to ensure the sweet flavour and aromas were imparted into the brew as late in the process as possible.

"We are confident our newest beer will create quite a buzz with drinkers.”

The bee farm, famed for its polyhives and nestled in the village of Hassocks, West Sussex, is just 90 minutes from the Sheperd Neame brewery.

Paynes Bee Farm third generation beefarmer Roger Paynes said: “Paynes is now celebrating its 100th year, retaining its traditional beekeeping methods and family values at the heart of the business.

"We believe this is what has made Paynes so successful over the years and there is nothing we love more than seeing our honey being used in collaboration with other independent companies, like Shepherd Neame, that share the same core values."

May Bee was launched in selected Shepherd Neame pubs on Wednesday (6 April), and will be available throughout April and May.

Take an aperitivo moment

The Sanpellegrino mixers range includes Tonica Citrus, Tonica Oakwood, Limonata, Aranciata, and brand-new Ginger Beer and Tastefully Light Tonic, aiming aims to bring people together in the Italian way through traditional aperitivo moments, created to uplift shared drinking occasions, whether mixing into a cocktail, elevating a mocktail or serving over ice with a slice

Not a 'dill'

Byron Pickle Beer

Launched on Friday 1 April, not as an April Fools prank, restaurant chain Byron Burger's latest offering introduced the UK to pickle beer, made with a Saison beer base and combining a dry tart acidity with a herbal dill infusion.

Byron Pickle Beer (4.5% ABV) was created to be the perfect accompaniment to burgers, following a poll of 2,000 people nationwide having showed 51% of those surveyed agreed pickles were a must have ingredient when enjoying a burger, be it meat or vegan.

Furthermore, a third of 18-34 year olds agreed the pickle was the perfect hangover snack and, according to Byron, it has been scientifically proven the sodium and potassium in pickles is why most people like the little green snack when hungover, making Byron Pickle Beer the ultimate hair of the dog.

Byron Pickle Beer is available in restaurants or from Deliveroo now at RRP £4.99.
