On a mission: Albert’s Schloss is set for an autumn opening in Liverpool

Albert’s Schloss – the bar, restaurant and live entertainment brand operated by Mission Mars – is set to open a site in Liverpool as part of a £3m investment.

The business has been granted permission by the city council to convert a former food market at Radiant House in Bold Street into a bar and restaurant, along with two ground-floor retail units included in the transformation of the basement, ground floor, mezzanine and part of the first floor areas.

It is expected to open in autumn 2022.

Albert’s Schloss Liverpool will include key elements of the Albert’s Schloss brand with the much-loved cook haus serving alpine-style dishes all day and the bier palace that serves European biers.

200 jobs to be created

The site that was previously a gas showroom, but has been empty since 2019, will create 200 new jobs with work expected to begin soon.

Mission Mars chief executive Roy Ellis said: “It’s a stunning art deco building on Liverpool’s busiest footfall street, and we’re delighted to be bringing it back to life as Albert’s Schloss. We’ve designed a beautiful space, restoring a 1,000sq ft glazed atrium while installing a large stage, green room, two large bars, an artisan bakery, a fresh tank beer system and restaurant dining for more than 500 guests.

“The first floor will be home to Ludwig’s Tavern, offering artisan Schnapps, a vermouth bar, shuffleboard and other Tavern games. Ludwig's Tavern will be available for private parties and other special events.

“We also have plans for a rooftop terrace and a large open air biergarten around the back. As in other cities, Schloss will recruit the best artistic talent available and offer entertainment seven days a week.”

Third site for brand

The Liverpool venue will be the third Albert’s Schloss, following the flagship Albert’s Schloss Manchester, housed on the ground floor of Manchester's historic Albert Hall and Albert’s Schloss Birmingham, which opened in December 2021 in Chamberlain Square.

Mission Mars also operates Liverpool‘s Albert’s Schenke on Hanover Street.

Albert’s Schloss was named so in honour of Prince Albert, Queen Victoria’s husband. Its sites have a bier palace, Alpine cook haus and on-site bakery, producing pretzels, doughnuts, kronuts, cruffins and artisan loaves freshly baked every day and live performances.
