BBPA launches showcase to celebrate International Women's Day
As part of its showcase, the BBPA will be highlighting women across the sector throughout the upcoming week, sharing videos and stories across social media and through its communication channels.
BBPA chief executive Emma McClarkin said: “We are proud to be celebrating International Women’s Day throughout the whole week, showcasing the many wonderful women who work across the pub and brewing sector. Currently 54% off staff who work in pubs are female.
Break the Bias
“As a sector we believe in celebrating women's achievement and forging equality. Collectively we can break the bias and create a world that is diverse, equitable, and inclusive.”
The showcase will illustrate the vast roles women play throughout the entire pub and brewing industry, as well as stakeholders from across the industry.
Included in the showcase is Jane Kershaw, a sixth-generation family member at the Joseph Holt brewery, Budweiser Brewing Group technical services process engineer Maria Cropley, and Carlsberg Marston’s Brewing Company director of marketing for Ales Miranda Osbourne.
BBPA board director and Greene King chief executive Nick Mackenzie said: “It is great to see the number of fantastic women working across the pub and brewing sector throughout all areas of the industry.
"I am proud to be championing BBPA’s work on equality, diversity and inclusion, we are strong believers in forging equality and providing everybody with the opportunity to grow and thrive.”
Rewarding career
However, the BBPA are not the only association to have celebrated International Women’s Day.
The Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA) last month announced its launch of a special edition beer box and virtual tasting session in honour of the day, which was held on Thursday 3 March and featured some of the UK’s top female brewers, hosted by 50 Years of CAMRA author Laura Hadland.
McClarkin added: “I hope more women are inspired to come join the beer and pub sector which offers rewarding career pathways and opportunities to advance quickly as well as lots of fun and friends.”
