More than craft beer: People's Captain and Punch Pubs Co new partnership aims to support mental health initiatives across the UK
Craft beer maker People’s Captain has announced a nationwide partnership with pub operator Punch Pubs & Co.

The independent operator has teamed up People’s Captain to stock its Legend American Pale Ale on tap with further additions from the craft beer range to follow.

People’s Captain founder Greg Bateman said: “We’re delighted Punch Pubs & Co want to be part of the change we want to make.

Heart of the community

“Their drive to keep making pubs the heart of the community aligns perfectly with the impact we’re trying to make.”

Professional Rugby player Greg Bateman, who currently plays for Newport Gwent Dragons and previously for Leicester Tigers and Exeter Chiefs, founded People’s Captain after brewing beer as a hobby.

However, after a difficult period of mental health struggles, Bateman found it easier to open-up to friends over a pint at the pub, which inspired him to support mental health initiatives across the UK by helping build social connections, stronger communities and exciting beers through People’s Captain.

Bateman added: “We know that the pub should be the perfect place for people to check in on one another and make the kind of positive social impact we’re so passionate about.”

Critical time

Every year, one in four people in England struggle with their mental health, however, only one in eight find the treatment they need to get better.

Following the Covid pandemic, the hospitality industry has grappled with an immensely difficult and uncertain two years, and it's now more important than ever to support those affected or struggling with mental health issues in the on-trade.

Punch Pubs & Co’s marketing and strategy director Russell Danks said, “We couldn’t be prouder to join up with People’s Captain and offer support to our pubs, teams and local communities – especially at such a critical time for mental health in the UK.”
