The Worlds Biggest Pub Quiz: PubAid's fundraising pub quiz is set to return next year

PubAid has partnered with homeless charity Shelter and online quiz platform Kwizzbit ahead of the return of its ‘World’s Biggest Pub Quiz’ to pubs in March 2022.

After a year of no quizzes due to lockdown, PubAid has aimed for a record number of pubs and customers taking part in the event to, hopefully, raise a record sum raised for charity at next year’s events.

PubAid founder Des O’Flanagan said: “We’re delighted to be back after Covid forced us to cancel the Quiz earlier this year.

Shelter’s work with people facing homelessness has never been more important, so we’re confident there will be widespread support for the charity among pubgoers.

“We took the opportunity during our time out to explore ways of refreshing the quiz and we’re pleased to be working with Kwizzbit, which allows licensees to host a traditional, fun pub quiz on their smartphone, with technology making it easier to run and offering features that make it more engaging for customers and drive greater footfall into the pub.”

Number of families facing homelessness rising

Pubs hosting a quiz have been encouraged to support Shelter between 14 and 20 March 2022, though a different charity and date can be chosen, amid the number of those facing homelessness growing since the start of the Coronavirus pandemic with an estimated 91 families a day becoming homeless in the UK.

Money raised through quizzes has been set to help Shelter continue to provide information, advice, and support to those facing homelessness, but previously several pubs have chosen to divide funds raised from their quiz between the charity partner and a cause closer to home.

Since its launch in 2016, The World’s Biggest Pub Quiz has raised a total of £750,000 for hundreds of charities and since 2009, PubAid has worked with pubs to raise more than £100m per year for charities and contribute a further £40 million to grassroots sport.

Shelter head of community fundraising Max Newton said: “Everyone at Shelter is absolutely thrilled to be partnering with the World’s Biggest Pub Quiz.

Free for pubs to run

“We’re looking forward to communities across the country coming together in their local pub to have fun and the money they raise will help us be there for anyone facing homelessness.”

The quiz is free for pubs to run and all that is required to use Kwizzbit is internet access, each participating site will also receive a free fundraising pack including posters and social media assets.
