Shortlist unveiled: the contenders for this year's 'pub Oscar's' are out

Following two rounds of rigorous judging, this year’s shortlist for the industry’s ‘pub Oscars’ - the Great British Pub Awards – has been announced.

Hundreds of pubs entered the prestigious competition before judges whittled down the list twice and from here, the final entries were decided.

Contenders across the multitude of categories will be visited by judges over the next few weeks before winners will be determined.

This year’s awards will be a new hybrid format including a livestream awards ceremony and an overall GBPA winners’ event.

Tough judging process

Editor of The Morning Advertiser, which organises the awards, Ed Bedington said: “The tough judging process is always difficult due to the high standard of the pubs that enter.

“However, those decisions have now been made, and we have a very strong list of finalists that will be in the running to take the title of each of the categories, with one exceptional winner going on to be crowned the overall Great British Pub of the Year.”

Bedington wished good luck to all the finalists and congratulated them all on getting this far in the competition.

The awards are sponsored by Booker Makro, Coca-Cola Europacific Partners, Diageo, Heineken UK, Sky Business, Rover, Screach and Zapaygo. Pubco partners are Admiral Taverns; Greene King; Hawthorn the Community Pub Co, Punch Pubs & Co; and Stonegate Group Pub Partners.
