Industry support: the auction will be live from next week (Monday 24 August)

The Estrella Damm National Restaurant Awards has teamed up with chefs, restaurateurs and other industry leaders to create an auction with proceeds going towards helping hospitality.

Due to the coronavirus pandemic, the awards themselves will not be taking place this year but instead, has unveiled the Top 100 Auction, partnered with charity Hospitality Action.

The auction will go live on Monday 24 August and opportunities up for grabs include international experience such as meals at world famous Spanish restaurants El Celler de Can Roca, including flights and accommodation.

Other highlights available include the ultimate experience at the UK’s best restaurant – Moor Hall in Aughton, Lancashire; farm-to-plate experience and pie masterclass with chef-patron of the Parkers Arms in Newton-in-Bowland, Lancashire, Stosie Madi; a private masterclass for four people plus lunch at the chef’s table and wine pairing at Core by Clare Smyth; and being a chef for the date followed by a tasting menu for two at House of Tides.

Long and tough road ahead

Last year’s number one, Mark Birchall of Moor Hall in Aughton, Lancashire said: “We are really proud to be supporting the Top 100 Auction.

“The hospitality industry has been hit incredibly hard by the pandemic and even though restaurants are opening again, there is a long and very tough road to recovery ahead.

“It’s so important we come together to support this industry and those who need it the most.”

Charity partner Hospitality Action welcomed the initiative to raise cash for its Hospitality Recovery Fund.

Industry lifeblood

It said: “This auction sees the cream of the UK’s restaurant sector pulling together with some fantastic lots to help the wider hospitality sector and support those who really need it.

“Independent operators are the lifeblood of our industry, developing the most innovative concepts, championing local ingredients and employing and nurturing the best talent.

“Their recovery is vital to the health of our industry and the enjoyment of the vibrant communities they serve.

“We are braced for a tidal wave of requests for longer-term support in the coming weeks, months and years. We are ready to harness all our expertise to provide ongoing assistance to the people at the sharp end of the pandemic, thanks to our Hospitality Recovery Fund and initiatives such as the Top 100 Auction that help support it.”

Estrella Damm and UK country manager James Healey lauded the auction as a great way of showcasing the top restaurant experiences while raising funds for the trade.

He said: “We are excited to be involved in this unique event as part of our ongoing commitment to the Estrella Damm National Restaurant Awards.

“The Estrela Damm National Restaurant Awards has always been about celebrating and rewarding the UK’s best restaurants and this year, we can use the platform for the greater good.”
