The iconic Great Sausage Roll Off competition is back for the eighth year in a row, held by licensees Claire Morgan and Angus McKean, at Fuller’s pub the Red Lion in Barnes, Greater London.

This year’s event will see 20 chefs battling for the title of the ultimate sausage roll at 7pm on Wednesday 5 February, which will also be raising money for Hospitality Action.

It will be hosted beer and food writer Melissa Cole the judging panel will include TV celebrity chef and Sunday Brunch presenter Simon Rimmer, Heart FM DJ Lucy Horobin, alongside Michelin-starred chefs Paul Cunningham and Russell Bateman.

The competing chefs come from across the country and a plethora of kitchens. They include cooks from gastropubs such as the Compasses Inn, Canterbury, Kent; and the Gun in London’s Docklands; alongside representatives from the Theatre Royal in Plymouth, Devon.

McKean said: “Every year, the competition gets bigger and better and this year is our strongest line-up ever.

“I can’t wait to see the weird and wonderful combinations of pastry, filling and accompaniments the chefs will submit.

“The incredible judging panel we have is testament to the status the Sausage Roll Off has among chefs across the UK and beyond.

“If you had told me, when we started in 2013 that I would have four Michelin stars on the judging panel, I would have said you would have been putting something dodgy in your sausage roll!”

Morgan hailed the competition as “fantastic, quite chaotic but great fun”.

She added: “The atmosphere is amazing, we will raise lots of money for Hospitality Action and I can’t wait to see who is going to walk away with the trophy this year.”

Last year saw chef Adrian Oliver from The Kernow Sausage Company named champion for his Cornish pork, bacon and sage sausage roll with mustard mayonnaise.
