Multiple operator: Urban Village Pub Company was founded in 2017

South-east-based Urban Village Pub Company has reported like-for-like sales growth of 13.1% for the five-week festive period in December.

The multiple operator also saw like-for-like sales growth of 12.5% for the 39 weeks to the end of December.

Urban Village Pub Company was founded in 2017 by Ian Grundy and Gavin Drew with a vision to take the best characteristics of village pubs and blend with the more contemporary environment of an urban pub.

In December last year, the company purchased its seventh site, 185 Watling Street Pub & Kitchen in Towcester, its first foray into Northamptonshire.

Great opportunity

The former Epic Pub Company site joined Urban Village’s estate, which spans London and the Home Counties, after leisure property specialist Fleurets was instructed by Epic’s administrators to handle the marketing and sale of its estate.

“I am delighted to be able to welcome 185 Watling Street and the team, into the Urban Village Pubs group, and be able to bring the site out of administration, saving some 20-plus jobs in the process,” Grundy said at the time.

“We believe this is a great opportunity in a lovely town and have plans for a refurbishment in the new year.

“We are very much looking forward to working with the team and the local community, to make 185 Watling Street a really strong addition to the centre of Towcester.”

Food and drink offer

The pubs share a love of great beer with each featuring an ever-changing range of cask ale, often from small, local breweries.

Each site also has a self-service fridge, stocked with more than 30 beers alongside craft beer walls showcasing keg beers from across the globe.

The company’s food offer aims to source fresh ingredients from trusted suppliers to produce dishes that are interesting, tasty, uncomplicated and affordable.

The ethos is to bring people together and it looks to instil the need to put visitors at the centre of what they do to all its staff.

Urban Village Pub Company also prides itself on reducing its carbon footprint by reducing wastage, increasing its recycling and improving its energy efficiency.
