Chequers mate: pub brought back to life with £180k refurb

Ei Publican Partnerships has joined forces with pub group Sheldon Inns to pump £180,000 into a reviving the Chequers Inn pub.

Ei Publican Partnerships has stumped up the lion’s share of cash – £140,000 – to bring the site back to its former glory.

The pub, located in Fladbury, Worcestershire, has undergone major interior renovations, including a new and repositioned bar that has created a bright, open-plan restaurant space for guests to enjoy.

Full potential

Ei Publican Partnerships regional manager Matthew Obrey added: “I have been involved with the Chequers Inn for a number of years and am over the moon to see the pub at its full potential.

“Since taking on the Chequers, Martin [Cartwright – Sheldon Inns director] has worked very hard to make this pub a success and it is great to have such an experienced publican at the helm.”

The investment forms part of a capital investment programme of c£80m per year that the Ei Group continues to make into its pub estate for the benefit of communities across the country.

First-class service

Sheldon Inns director Martin Cartwright, has run multiple pubs in his career and the Chequers Inn is one of six pub properties in his portfolio with Ei Publican Partnerships.

Cartwright said: “Having only been at the Chequers for a short time, I am hugely excited to have the opportunity to restore life into this pub and revive it as a venue that welcomes both locals and visitors to Fladbury.

“I am confident that following the refurbishment, the Chequers Inn will be a great success and bring all members of the local village together, while offering a range of fantastic food and drink teamed with first-class service.”

Strength to strength

The makeover will also include an upgraded commercial kitchen and toilets and a new restaurant area that opens up onto the gardens.

Obrey added: “Ei Publican Partnerships has been extremely supportive throughout this process and working in partnership with the business for many years, I am looking forward to seeing what the future brings.

“I wish Martin the best of luck as he continues to take this pub from strength to strength, bringing positive change to the local area and attracting new and prospective customers.”
