Operated by East Midlands pub company, Pub People – which owns close to 50 pubs in the region – Bunkers Hill in Nottingham is teaming up with Wild Card and Northern Monk to put a twist on traditional beer collaborations.
Over the course of the city’s Craft Beer Week between 8 and 15 June, the pub in the Hockley area of Nottingham will link up with Wild Card Brewery on Thursday 13 June and Northern Monk Brewery on Saturday 15 June to host beer yoga classes.
A fitness craze originating in Germany and gaining popularity in Asia, beer yoga combines traditional yoga poses with drinking bottled beer.
While a small number of classes have made their way to London and other major cities in the UK, Bunkers Hill claims to be bringing it to the East Midlands for the first time.
Staff from Leeds-based Northern Monk, and Wild Card’s head brewer Jaega Wise, will talk through a range of beers while a yoga instructor from a nearby leisure centre guides attendees through a series of poses that allow them to sample them.
First for the East Midlands
Discussing the event, Mark Gallagher, the marketing manager at Bunkers Hill, explained: “We saw beer yoga pop up on our social feeds via the BBC last year and loved the idea. We’re so excited to be the first pub in the East Midlands to do it.
“We found a yoga instructor who works from the local leisure centre who knew all about the craze and jumped at the chance to take part.
“Jaega Wise of Wild Card Brewery is a Nottingham girl and we got to know her during Nottingham Craft Beer Week last year. She was keen to get involved again this year and we thought this would be great to do alongside a Wildcard tap takeover.
“There are only so many meet-the-brewers events you can attend!”
Bunkers Hill, which prides itself on offering a diverse range of events during Nottingham Craft Beer Week, held an all-female brew fest featuring guest speakers Melissa Cole and Jaega Wise as well as local brewers and local CAMRA branch members at last year’s event.
Alongside beer yoga, the pub will also host a Pint of Science event, a craft beer and house plant swap, Sunday jumble sale, in addition to Wildcard Brewery and Northern Monk tap takeovers.
