Full-on flavour: Edinburgh Gin is extending its product range

A Scottish distillery is growing its rhubarb and ginger variants with the launch of a full-strength gin.

The expansion into full-strength flavoured gin is a natural progression for the distiller, which claims to be the first to bring the flavour to the category in 2014.

The award-winning Scottish distillery says its aim is to maintain its position at the forefront of flavour in the gin category with the launch of the Rhubarb & Ginger 40% ABV expression.

Sales of gin liqueurs and full-strength flavoured gins have grown exponentially in recent years – now worth a whopping £362m.

Ian Macleod Distillers UK marketing director Neil Mowat explained that within premium flavoured gins, rhubarb is by far the dominant profile – accounting for 54% of sales.

Mowat explained: “Since launching our original Rhubarb & Ginger Gin Liqueur in 2014, Edinburgh Gin has been category defining within flavoured gins and gin liqueurs.

“The liqueur remains the on-trade’s number one premium flavoured gin product and we’re excited to now offer bartenders and consumers alike our flavour as a full-strength classic gin.”

Mowat added the gin pairs well with yuzu and Mediterranean tonic varieties; perfect for creating a “refreshing twist” on a classic serve.
