Good taste: Greene King pubs will be offering designated drivers free soft drinks during the festive period

Designated drivers are being rewarded with free soft drinks at Greene King pubs this Christmas.

More than 1,000 Greene King pubs across the UK are taking part in an annual anti-drink drive campaign with Coca-Cola, by offering nominated drivers free soft drinks.

The scheme will award drivers with a voucher to use on their next purchase when they buy an 330ml bottles of Coca-Cola, Diet Coke, Coca-Cola Zero Sugar or Appletiser.

Driving the promotion is Phil Thomas, chief commercial officer at Greene King, who says he is pleased to be running the promotion for the ninth year in a row.

“As a leading pub company, we have an important role to play in helping promote responsible drinking,” he said.

“Once again, our pubs up and down the country are offering free soft drinks during Christmas as we enter almost a decade of the Designated Driver campaign with Coca-Cola.”

The reward for non-drinkers comes as the number of people driving after drinking continues to fall.

According to the Department for Transport, the estimated number of reported drink-drive-related accidents in the UK since 1979, has fallen by 69%, with recent figures of 6,070 compared to 19,470 almost 30 years ago.

The promotion will run until last orders on 1 January.
