Power of four: new low-alcohol beers on the market

Beer distributor Euroboozer has pulled four new low-alcohol beers into its portfolio in time for Christmas and Dry January.

Increased demand for low- and no-alcohol drinks led the company to seek out new varieties, with the four additions coming from Copenhagen brewer Mikkeller.

The brewery, which was established in 2006 by maths and physics teacher Mikkel Borg Bjergsø, has launched more than 800 beers since its inception, which are available in 40 countries.

Quartet of beers

The new quartet of beers, which Euroboozer has taken on, include Mikkeller Racing Beer, Drinkin’ in the Sun and Drinkin’ in the Snow.

Racing Beer is a lager-style brew with a 0.3% ABV, described as having 'tropical fruit aromas combined with a lightly acidic backbone and refreshing finish'.

Wheat beer Drinkin’ in the Sun is a 0.3% ABV wheat-based ale 'full of hops that yield to a smooth body and palate'.

Drinkin’ in the Snow also has an ABV of 0.3% and is a spiced winter ale 'with aromas of sweet malt with some fruitiness and red apple'.

Meanwhile, Mikkeller Henry & His Science is a Flemish ale at 0.3% ABV that the brewer claims is a “ground-breaking beer” as a result of its delicate malt hop profile.

Light and acidic

“The beer is light and acidic on the palate with aromas of passionfruit, resulting in a refreshing and easy-drinking beer,” said the brewer.

Euroboozer managing director Martyn Railton said: “The trend for low- and no-alcohol drinks continues to grow with brands like Stiegl and Mikeller helping to raise the bar in what can be achieved when it comes to beer styles, flavour, aroma and taste quality.

“Mikkeller is definitely pushing boundaries and these three are cracking examples of that. Whether 0.0% or 10%, Mikkeller beers guarantee to intrigue and excite in equal measure so they are the brand to watch in 2019.”
