Meat treat: Hungry Horse has introduced cows in quilts as its new festive side dish

Forget about pigs in blankets this Christmas as one national pub chain is offering its consumers a twist on the old festive favourite.

Just when you thought Christmas couldn't get any quirkier, Hungry Horse is unveiling its new creation 'cows in quilts'.

Famed for their generous portions, the pub chain has introduced the "ultimate side dish" at 286 pubs nationwide to make their Christmas menu stand out from the herd.

In a nutshell, the new dish is beef burgers wrapped inside bacon.

Jason Radbourn, food development manager at Hungry Horse, said they launched the new side to rival more traditional roast dinner accompaniments.

“Christmas is almost upon us, and this year we wanted to take the celebrations to a whole new level by turning a Christmas dinner staple on its head,” he added.

“Pigs in blankets have long been the star of many Christmas dinners, and we thought it was time we gave the spotlight to a new seasonal side dish by creating something which pays homage to a true pub classic – the beef burger."

The cows in quilts are not the first unique Christmas item served up at the pub – last year diners enjoyed glitter gravy.
