Free beer is being offered to the first customers to find one of the goose heads commissioned to celebrate American brewco Goose Island’s new pub.

Chicago-based Goose Island Beer Co is set to open its first European brewpub this week (Wednesday 21 November).

London artist Jess Wilson was commissioned to create 10 unique goose heads for people in Shoreditch to track down.

The heads have been positioned on walls and fences alongside the borough’s street art.

A free beer will be available to the first 200 customers who find one – providing they have a photo to prove it.

New brews

The brewpub will bring a taste of the windy city to the UK, with a Chicago-inspired pizza menu and brews like Old Man Grumpy (5.8% ABV), Fog Bowl (7.2%) and Next Coast (7.2%) on offer.

Live music acts will also be a regular feature, including indie and headliner live acoustic and DJ acts.

Head brewer Andrew Walton will use a nitrogen draft-dispensing system that connects barrel-aged beers directly to the pub’s tap system without the risk of oxidisation – the first of its kind in Europe. He has returned to London after having spent a month working at Goose Island’s headquarters.

Make our mark

Walton said: “I cannot wait for the doors of the Shoreditch brewpub to open and am so stoked for Goose Island fans and fans-to-be to see what we have in store.

“I’ve been working on some crazy delicious microbrews that will be available exclusively at our Shoreditch brewpub.

“I know London has always held a special place in Goose Island’s history, and I can’t wait for us to make our mark on British beer culture, creating a new experience in the heart of east London, where foodies, beer drinkers and music lovers alike can join together in appreciation of a good time – and great beer.”
